“I don’t have a headache because my head is very strong and tough.” — Griffin

Not Tired
On our way home after seeing friends, close to bedtime, Griffin says, “I’m not sleepy or tired or resty or nappy, Mama. I just want to go home and relax with you.”
Fuzzy Wuzzy Slide

Griffin shouted from the living room, “Daddy! Come see the Fuzzy Wuzzy Slide!” He was jumping up and down with excitement and pointing to a beam of light coming in the side windows.
He explained that it is a special slide that only Fuzzy Wuzzies and Za Za can slide down. A demonstration followed, with Griffin trying mightily to jump up onto the “slide.” Each attempt was met with dramatic and joyous failure. “See, Daddy, I cannot slide down. Only Fuzzy Wuzzies and Za Za!”
(If you haven’t met the FWs and Za Za, see my recent post introducing them.)
Chopped Liver
While strapping Griffin into his car seat this evening:
Griffin: “Daddy, be careful! A car is coming.”
Daddy: “Ok, I will.”
Griffin: “Or you will get very dirty and then we will need to get a new daddy.”
Daddy: <laughing> “A new daddy? Where are you going to get one of those?”
Griffin: “At the store.”
Don’t ask…
Daddy: “Griffin, what are you doing in there?”
Griffin: “I’m playing.”
Daddy: “What are you playing with?”

Quotes
A few random thoughts from Griffin:
- “I get sad sometimes that Grandma’s not here.”
- “When the Minnesota State Fair opens, we will meet Aunt Carol and Uncle Bob in the summer time when it opens!” (He is constantly asking if the Fair is open yet, and while we did go twice this past year, we have never met Bob and Carol there!)
- During a discussion about what kind of present he would like to get his new brother or sister, I suggested a “soft blankie,” like the one he has, so that the baby can have his/her own: “I would like to SHARE my soft blankie with the baby!”
- “Scuse me, Daddy. I want you stop talking. Then come over here on the couch next to me and keep talking about your students.”
- “Let’s go <insert anything he wants to do here> RIGHT QUICK!!”
- “Daddy’s a boy? So both of us are boys and the rest of our family are a girl.”
When I Older
At the pool, after witnessing a girl about Griffin’s age jumping off the side into her mom’s arms, I asked Griffin if he’d like to try it. His reply?
“I not like that very much. I be afraid. But when I older, I be happy to try it!”
Best message of the New Year
Griffin called and left me this voicemail message on Thursday. It’s just a simple message about going to the park, but shows how much his language has developed recently. I’ve been listening to it over and over, so I decided to figure out how to transfer it from my phone to a permanent audio file to share. Click on the MP3 link below to hear it.
Transcript:
Hi! Hi Daddy, I’m riding my bike to Mattocks park and then ride back home and then all the way over there. See you later. Bye bye.
Geek details: Weirdly difficult to transfer a voicemail message to your computer from an iPhone. I just assumed there would be a “forward” button where I could email it to myself, but no. You can access the file directly if you jailbreak your phone, but otherwise you have to use an audio cable and record it into your computer. I used Audacity to record the file, clipped dead air off the ends and then exported as an MP3.

Morning Songs
Griffin woke early this morning, nearly an hour before he is normally allowed to leave his room. I helped him use the potty and tucked him back into bed. Before leaving, I reminded him that he should stay in his bedroom until his “orange sun” lights up (it’s a nightlight timer).
As I pulled the door shut, he asked, “Okay to sing songs?”
